Sarah Darby Hughes
Owner/Director/Instructor: Recreational Clogging, Competition Clogging, Recreational Hip Hop, and Competition Hip Hop
After attending her first clogging lesson at the age of six, Sarah Darby fell in love with the dance form. At the age of eight, Sarah began competing nationally, winning many solo and team awards. At the age of nine, she joined the Southern Charm Cloggers where she won numerous Grand Champion Duo titles and many solo awards. After Southern Charm split, Sarah joined Clog’n FX at the age of 15 where she went on to medal 11 times at the Jr. Olympics in Detroit, Michigan, won the age division title of Teen Ms. American Clogger in 2003, and went on to accrue numerous national champion team titles in several different clogging circuits. After splitting with FX, Sarah has remained director/member of the competition team Synergy and owner of Sole Impulse Dance Studio. Sarah was named Top Teacher at National Star Systems Competition in 2005, Top Teacher at Regional Star Systems Competition in 2006, CCA All-Pro Team member in 2009, and has served as a Clogging Champions of America Clog Camp counselor. In July 2006, Darby was crowned Overall Miss American Clogger 2006/2007 at a pageant held in Bristol, TN after capturing the Overall Talent and Interview awards out of a talented field of 59 contestants. Darby’s crowning achievement took place in January 2012 when Synergy Junior once again captured the CCA “Junior National Champions” for the second consecutive year. With much success in the competition circuits, Darby now additionally does free lance choreography and teaches at workshops and conventions throughout the Southeast to share her clogging passion with other dancers. Although Darby has been clogging for 20 years now, she doesn’t see her passion for the sport ending any time in the near future, as she continues her love of dance through teaching recreational hip hop as well as recreational and competitive clogging at Sole Impulse. Sarah graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a degree in Social Studies Education.
